Earlier this term, Brighton MET hosted ‘MET Tech Fest’, which aimed to empower students through industry partnerships.
The event highlighted the role of industry collaboration in shaping the future tech workforce, and included students showcased their IT and gaming projects, while industry experts offered guidance, feedback and mentoring.
The Sussex & Surrey Institute of Technology participated in the event, highlighting their commitment to innovation and collaboration in developing the next generation of talent.
Local companies, including Focus Group, Unity, and Sumo Digital, attended the event as part of their commitment to actively supporting students through their apprenticeships and T Level placements.
T Level students Samuel Martinez and Mahdi Nasiri, shared how their course has boosted their confidence.
Samuel said: “Be yourself, be confident, and don’t hesitate to ask colleagues for help; they don’t bite!” Mahdi added: “T Levels have helped me balance theory with work experience. It’s given me optimism for the future.”
Ionie Gamble, Recruitment Advisor at Focus Group, revealed: “It’s a positive experience for the students and for us. We treat students like regular employees, and they gain confidence and skills while we gain motivated talent.”
Bryony Cairns, Industry Placement Officer at Brighton MET College, emphasised the importance of matching students with suitable employers, she said:
“T Levels build general workplace skills that students may not have if they haven’t been in employment before, placements prepare students for real-world expectations.”
The MET Tech Fest is scheduled to return in 2026.
