IET Visits Crawley: Power Networks and Hydrogen in Focus

SSIoT welcomes members of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to Crawley College

We were pleased to welcome members of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to Crawley College this May, as part of their ongoing commitment to supporting students and encouraging learning within the engineering and technology sectors.

The visit took place in the Longley II Building’s Learning Suite – an advanced, immersive space designed to enhance engagement. Equipped with high-spec cameras and display screens covering three walls, this dynamic environment transforms traditional presentations into an interactive and visually engaging experience. It’s a valuable resource for group sessions, helping bring complex topics to life and improving learning outcomes.

The main presentation, titled UK Power Networks DSO: Two Years On, was delivered by Zivanayi Musanhi, Development Manager at the Distribution System Operator (DSO) division of UK Power Networks. Zivanayi shared insights into the progress made in transitioning the electricity distribution network to a smarter, more flexible system. The work of the DSO is crucial in supporting the UK’s move towards a low-carbon, sustainable energy future. The session was introduced by Ian Marshall.

May has also seen another similar event at the University of Sussex, where the IET presented a talk on emerging hydrogen technologies – another key element in the UK’s energy strategy.

We always enjoy welcoming this group and look forward to seeing them again later in the year. Even more exciting, we will soon be able to offer group meeting space in our brand-new Institute of Technology (IoT) building – a state-of-the-art facility designed for collaboration, learning and innovation.
